Port Range Forwarding: Certain applications may require to open specific ports in order for it to function correctly. Examples of these applications include servers and certain online games. When a request for a certain port comes in from the Internet, the router will route the data to the computer you specify. Due to security concerns, you may want to limit port forwarding to only those ports you are using, and uncheck the Enable checkbox after you are finished.

Then on your wii settings.

On the Wii home screen, go to options, settings, internet, connection settings, the current connection you use, change settings. Go to advance settings. For the IP mines is 192.168.2.11, type in the IP you assigned to your Wii and then for the subnet mask enter 255.255.255.0, then my default router ip is 192.168.2.1, and the primary is the same 192.168.2.1 and the box under that you can leave blank

and then for the MTI Value insert 1500

save and run a test


Your router settings may be different so try this

Go to run, type in cmd, click OK.

then enter ipconfig/all

but the alternate ip settings for the wii should be like the gaming application my alternate is 192.168.2.110 and my ip is 192.168.2.100 so my alternate ip is just 10 more at the end just like in the gaming application tab on my router but you can have a different one as long and they match in gaming applications

Ok I am not that familiar with computers and stuff. What exactly is all this for? like what does it do?

Think of it in terms of a map.. The most direct path between two points is a straight line. But realistically your gonna take some right and left hand turns, wait on stop lights and the occasional blue hair. Port forwarding takes the bypass around the map inside the router to improve speed and efficiency and maximize transmission to your Wii. That's a very nontechnical explanation, maybe Stewie can offer a more techical point of view.

Step 1. Find Command Prompt
Go to run, type in cmd, click OK.

Step 2. In command prompt, type "ipconfig/all" without quotes.
Take note of: IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS servers. Make sure DHCP is enabled. If not, well, you should have good internet connections on your Wii...

Step 3. Assign your Wii an IP address.
Alright, look at your IP address you took down. If the numbers after the period are LESS THAN or EQUAL TO 100, select a random number 1-49. If these numbers are GREAT THAN 100, choose a number 200 to 255.
Take your IP address and put whatever number you selected after the last period.

E.G. My IP is 192.168.2.100, so my Wiis is 192.168.2.7.

Step 4. Forward ports.
Copy your IP address and put it into the address bar of Firefox. It should prompt you for a password and username. For Linksys routers, blank username and "admin" as password is the default. Look up your router to find the defaults, or ask your network administrator. Once in, go to GAMING, then label them, and make the page look like this.

You want to forward ports 28910-29920, 80, and 443.

Step 5. Set up a DMZ server
Go to the DMZ tab under gaming, select yes, and put in the IP address you assigned to your Wii.

Step 6. Connect your Wii.
On the Wii home screen, go to options, settings, internet, connection settings, the current connection you use, change settings. Go to advance settings. For the IP, type in the IP you assigned to your Wii. For everything else, type in what you copied down.

Thats it. I'll eventually put this into a guide and upload it to the guides section, but, meh....

NOTE: This will not fix lag caused by the host of matches having bad interwebz.
